Neil’s therapeutic yoga classes, held in Penticton, BC at the Purple Lotus Yoga Studio, merge Western understanding of anatomy and physiology with the eight limbs of yoga. Held twice a week, Neil’s classes allow students to address their pain and recovery through the many aspects of yoga, while under the guidance of a highly experienced physiotherapist.

The classes address the various effects of chronic pain, such as increased muscle tension, abnormal breathing, posture and movement patterns, decreased confidence, isolation, fear, anxiety and depression. Neil teaches breathing techniques, body awareness, mindfulness and physical postures, while concentrating on facilitating calmness and peace of mind in those with chronic pain. Each technique can be individualized within the small class setting as required.

The intent of Neil’s classes is two-fold. While Neil strives to help those in chronic pain get well, he also hopes to prepare students for other non-therapeutic yoga classes or mindful exercise practices. Students are encouraged to stay with his classes until they feel safe to progress onward. As with all things in yoga and chronic pain, there is no specific timeline or recipe for recovery.

Experience in yoga: not necessary for these classes.

Prerequisite: at least one physiotherapy session with Neil. These sessions allow Neil to better understand the student and the issues he/she will face in beginning therapeutic yoga. The appointment enables Neil to tailor the class to the individual’s specific needs. As well, the individual can receive instructions in simple techniques to help prepare them for the classes and their recovery.

If you would like to refer one of your students, please contact Neil.

One-on-One Yoga Therapy

Some people are uncertain whether yoga classes will be more than their body can tolerate. Others are interested in receiving guidance to find the best postures, breathing and meditation techniques for their individual concerns.

Neil provides one-on-one yoga therapy aimed at correcting imbalances in flexibility, strength, motor control, balance, breath control, and body tension. A believer in a truly holistic approach to healing chronic pain, Neil also works with restoring peace and balance to the mind. The yoga postures, breathing exercises and mindful movements in each session are based on current scientific evidence and on ancient yoga practices.

Those interested in one-on-one yoga therapy can contact Neil at 250-486-5056 for an appointment.
