Neil’s educational style has been described as engaging and entertaining. He merges understanding of Yoga, anatomy, physiology and our human experience. Course participants appreciate the new perspectives, new knowledge and practical information that allows them to improve and deepen their yoga practice and healing.

Neil is available to teach workshops as part of Yoga conferences, Yoga teacher and Yoga therapist training programs, or as stand-alone courses.

Current Workshops

Yoga Decreases Pain

Designed for yoga teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of chronic pain and the role yoga can play in bringing relief to those who suffer from it.

Description: Participants will gain an understanding of current pain science, and an awareness of how our Western belief systems might be interfering with the practice of yoga. The workshop includes opportunities to discuss and practice pranayama, asana, and some aspects of the yamas, and niyamas in relation to therapeutic yoga.

This eight hour educational day begins and ends with a therapeutic yoga class created specifically for people in pain.

 

Yoga Pain and Pathology

Designed for yoga teachers and those training as yoga therapists, this course is a more in-depth view about pain, common pathologies, and the healing power of yoga.  Here we take a closer look at the common injuries and diseases that your students may have.

The three day course includes:

  • Yoga Decreases Pain (first day)
  • tissue healing
  • anatomy, physiology and common problems in the spine, sacrum, hips, knees, and shoulders,
    multiple sclerosis, osteoarthritis, arthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia

 

Anatomy Yoga

Yoga Teachers will benefit greatly from this 30-36 hour course, which will provide in-depth understanding of both anatomy and physiology. Designed to increase overall body knowledge, this course will help both yoga teachers and consequently their students release any limiting fears about yoga.  The course is often scheduled over two weekends, including 3 hours on Friday nights to complete the 36 hours.  Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the 36 hour course.

Topics include:

  • anatomy and physiology of major musculo-skeletal(MSK) tissues.
  • anatomical and physiological connections from cells to organism
  • origin, insertion and actions of major muscle groups
  • understanding strength, motor control and flexibility
  • anatomy and physiology of internal organs and skin
  • interactions of respiratory, immune, nervous, circulatory and endocrine systems with MSK system
  • tissue healing processes
  • common pathologies affecting the MSK system
  • asana modifications
